WHAT IS IT?

This lo-fi beast of a sampler is the big brother of very sought after Yamaha VSS-30, which was famously used for sampling vocals by Sigur Ros and others. Sadly this version does not include the famous echo trick that Sigur Ros have done, but you can get a very similar effect by using the amplitude modulation that is present on this unit. VSS-200 has a few advantages as well:

• a wider range of library sounds (which sound very cute)
• that quintessential backing track you get from 80s child-friendly keyboards
• you can sample sounds from the internal library directly into the sampler and basically lo-fi and modulate it even further

WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR?

Anything you want really. Play it at your cousins bar-mitzvah for all I care. It fits most gigs. However, most dawless guys use it as a cool lo-fi sampler that has a unique character, and I tend to do the same. It's battery powered so you can take it to a park or somewhere like a true hipster and make content for those 30 odd followers on Instagram (talking from experience here).

PERSONAL USE

I got this of some woman on marketplace. The keyboard was basically dormant in a closet for a decade. I bought it and used it on a couple of projects. Mostly sampling stuff from the microphone and internal library and then generating to my DAW or my other setup. It was very fun, but got gear now that kinda gave me a similar vibe, but nothing really in the same characteristic as VSS-200, but alas I got to pay them bills.

A FEW OTHER NOTES

Selling this bad boy as is. It's fully functional works great for a synth from the 80s. A few notes I should mention:

• the mic if fully functional but a bit wobbly on the stand, I've heard this is like on most units but can't confirm
• there is a very small mark in the plastic on the library title at number 84
