About This Listing

This is the earliest Wal Pro Bass ever offered for sale! This is pre-serialized and one of the very first examples built which had a "plain" face headstock without the decorative stripes found on all other examples. From "A History of Wal Basses": The first ever Pros, between March and May 1979 had plain faced headstocks; from then on the distinctive Wal stripes became standard. Simply put, this is the earliest known Wal neck on the planet with pre-serialization neck plate. This comes from a collection that includes the other 1981 Wal Pro Bass we have for sale here. The body style was changed for a conventional Jazz Bass style body with Leo Quan Badass bridge and rare Schaller pickups to match the Wal factory original Schaller hardware. The pots are all CTS from the same week of 1985. The neck is a factory fretted model that has had the frets removed and filled for fretless play, but of course can easily be switched back to a fretted model. This is an incredible one-of-a-kind bass from England, the home of Wal! If you want ultimate bragging rights for the earliest known Wal neck on the planet, look no further. This is a piece of bass guitar history.
