About this Matrix 6:
This Matrix 6 is in very good physical condition. All of the membranes buttons are clean and show almost no signs of wear (see photos.) The synth itself is also very nice and has some very light signs of wear (light scratches here and there were previously repaired and virtually unnoticeable / please see many close up photos for condition.) This is not a mint condition synth but it looks amazing. In my care this synth was stored in a climate controlled studio. I received this Matrix 6 from the original owner and it includes all of the original documentation and materials pictured including the original Owners Manual, software update information sheets, the Original Factory Stock Patches Volume 1 (stamped Sept. 28, 1985) as well as an additional cassette labeled "Sardonic Sounds," and more!!! These cassettes came with this Matrix 6 from the original owner and I have never erased the custom patches that are on it from the 1st owner so the next owner can keep them or replace back to factory settings. (Some have some interesting names :))

This bundle also includes the highly sought after Access Matrix Programmer which is also in very good condition with only minimal signs of wear. The access matrix programmer essentially gives the Oberheim Matrix 6 physical knobs so that you can more easily edit patches and sounds. There is plenty of information about both the Matrix 6 and the Access Matrix Programmer online so I will not repeat that here, nor am I an expert on either - I just like to make great sounds :-)

Also included in this sale but not pictured, are the power cable for the Matrix 6, the power supply for the access matrix programmer, a short midi cable to connect the programmer to the matrix, and a printed version of the access matrix programmer instruction booklet.

I do not have an immediate need to sell this bundle but I am trying to make room for a new synth and so I am listing. However, if someone is really interested into diving deep into the Matrix 6 this bundle should get you where you need to go quickly and I would love to get this to a good home.

As far as I can tell everything works top notch however I am not an expert about all the details of this synth nor have I ever used it to it's fullest extent. To that of course with all vintage gear I am selling as is.

About Matrix 6 (if you are unfamiliar, taken from vintagesynth.com)
The Matrix 6 was one of the last few synthesizers from Oberheim to come out during the mid-eighties following the classic OB-series. The Matrix 6 utilized high-tech but less expensive digital and midi features and still retained a totally analog sound. It did this by using DCOs (digitally controlled oscillators) to provide stability, programmability and more. All the Matrix synthesizers featured Matrix Modulation which allows for extremely wild virtual patching for almost unlimited range of sounds and modulation capabilities!

The Matrix 6 is a very popular synthesizer today because it offers access to the legendary sounds and power of the Matrix 12, though not as meaty but at a fraction of the cost. The Matrix 6 is also like the Xpander, but with only 6 voices of polyphony and slimmer programming. Each of its 6 voices has a pair of DCOs, a low pass filter, 2 VCA's, 3 envelope generators, 2 LFO's, and 2 ramp gens for a variety of complex analog pads, basses and sounds.

The programmability is vast, but it can be very tedious. As was the growing trend in synthesizers during this time, knobs and sliders were replaced by just a few membrane buttons and a simple data slider. This is accompanied by gobs of programming and patch data written across the face of the unit. Fortunately Midi SysEx is fully supported so you can get patches on-line and transmit them into the Matrix. Access, makers of the Virus, used to make the Matrix Programmer which gives you much more user friendly hands-on controls too. And software editors such as Unisyn make graphic editing possible for much easier programming. (Citation: )
