- Custom, Larrivee D-09 Monkeypod wood. This is a very rare Tonewood called Monkeypod that grows in South East Asia and Central America. It is known as a strong wood for furniture, some high quality wood has been set aside for tonewood. Unknown how much is there for Musical Instruments. This keeps the pricing of $5598 in somewhat in the dark. There is another monkeypod guitar on Reverb that is about $1,500 More. This guitar has Monkeypod on the bottom and sides. Top grade sitka spruce on top w Scalloped Hybrid bracing, for a greater dynamic and controlled bass, mid and treble which just screams at you! This 09 Series features an abalone rosette, silver headstock border, "JCL"18:1 tuners and Maple Trim. Ebony Fingerboard w diamond fret markers and Ebony bridge w abalone Vine inlay bridge-wings, also, Titaium bridge pins and Tusq. saddle & Nut for a Super brilliant Sound. A must for all Monkeypod wood guitars. Some Monkeypod guitars were, at first made from Bone Nut, Saddles and Bridge pins, which made it sound very Dull and lifeless...... The change to the Tusq. parts made a BIG difference. Vine-Logo on Headstock w Curly Maple bindings. There is a Bear Claw mark on the Spruce Top, at about 11:00 from the sound hold, very rare. Has a Gloss finnish and comes w a hard shell Archtop case w keys. This is the loudest Dreadnought and lightest guitar I have ever handled. Very strong wood. I have priced it lower than any Monkeypod guitar that I have ever seen. It is priced at $5,598.00 w free shipping in the continental U.S. As you know, all Larrivees are built here in the U.S.A. THIS GUITAR was set-up by Tina Wood. She has decades of expearence and has worked on Everyone who is anyone in the music world. Super-Star guitarists, and you would know all there names in the recording industry world. Her work is top noch and is considered one of the top Liuthers in the world. Some, the few, guitar players consider monkeypod wood better in sound, than Brazilian Rosewood in overall in sound, Durability and overall Brilliant and Richness. I would think there are less than 100 of these guitars in America. I have no sound to sample of this great guitar, but you can find some on youtube under Monkeypod guitars. They don't sound as good as the real thing but I can tell you that it is really something to hear live, the computer doesn't do it justice but will give you a little idea what it sounds like.
