NS-1 – Solid Walnut – Woodstock Custom Collection

Chris’ NS-1 recalls the classic, rustic designs of the late 1970’s, complete with a custom relief carving and intricate inlays. This NS-1 features black walnut body wings, a three-piece maple neck, ziricote fingerboard and a 34” scale length. For electronics, this bass features a single Aguilar 4P-60 pickup paired with a volume control and an active Aguilar OBP-1 preamp. Choosing to highlight natural beauty of the wood, this bass features a clear, high gloss finish, custom pau ferro acorn & leaf inlays, ziricote truss rod cover, and gold hardware.

“The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Playing music and building instruments are both, like an acorn, about unlocking potential. What’s the next song? What’s the next innovation? The Oak and Acorn relief carve in this NS-1 was a big challenge.  I wanted to attempt something no one had seen on our basses before and, while it may not be for everybody, I absolutely love it. I then took that theme a step further and created complimentary inlays out of pau ferro and black walnut. It has a classic 3-ply maple neck and a gorgeous ziricote fingerboard and truss rod cover for a little something special.

The Spector story itself is one of potential.  Like the oak and acorn, what started as one man with an idea has grown into a world recognized brand with a cult following. With that in mind, I used the same body wood Stuart did in his early instruments: Black Walnut.  The density of black walnut is great for tone and lends itself to the intricate carving in the wing.
